Cyprus: First Lady Highlights Equality Policies

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to promoting policies of real equality, equal opportunities, and respect without discrimination at the inauguration of the Photographic Exhibition of the Press and Information Office (PIO) “ELLE: Women in Antiquity” in Thessaloniki.

Held at the Museum of Byzantine Culture, the exhibition showcases sculptural depictions of female deities and figurines from the 4th millennium BC to the Roman Era, highlighting the evolution and uniqueness of Cypriot sculpture.

Open from March 14 to April 13, 2025, the exhibition continues its successful presentations from Nicosia, Vienna, and Madrid.

Visitors can immerse themselves in the historical, religious, and cultural past of Cyprus through the photographic approach and specialized lighting by photographer Stefanos Kouratzis.

Christodoulides underscored the importance of combating gender-based violence, challenging stereotypes, and promoting participation in positions of power. She highlighted the exhibition’s evolving meaning shaped by viewers’ perspectives from different places and times.

The event, organized in collaboration with the Consulate General of the Republic of Cyprus in Thessaloniki, was attended by representatives of the Greek Government, Parliament, and various dignitaries. The exhibition coincides with International Women’s Day, further celebrating women’s contributions to society throughout history.
