Cyprus Industrial Production Rises 3.7% in January, Driven by Electricity and Water Supply

Industrial production in Cyprus rose 3.7 percent in January compared with the same month last year, according to figures released by the Statistical Service.

The Industrial Production Index reached 109.5 points (2021=100), with the strongest gains recorded in electricity supply, which jumped 18.6 percent, and in water supply and materials recovery, up 6 percent.

Manufacturing output increased 1.5 percent year‑on‑year. Within the sector, notable growth was reported in wood products (+4.9%), petroleum refining, chemicals and pharmaceuticals (+3.2%), basic metals and metal products (+3.2%), and food, beverages and tobacco (+1.9%).

Declines were recorded in paper and printing (-2.0%) and in non‑metallic mineral products (-0.9%). Mining and quarrying saw the sharpest drop, falling 16.1 percent.

The index tracks monthly changes in production across mining, manufacturing, electricity and water supply, using 2021 as the base year. Data are collected through surveys and administrative sources and are submitted monthly to Eurostat.
