Larnaca is in the midst of a sweeping urban overhaul, with nearly every street in the city’s historic and commercial center turned into a construction site. The ambitious redevelopment plan aims to reshape the city by September 2026, with a total investment of €17 million.
Currently, major works are underway across the commercial district, including Ermou and Gladstonos streets, which are nearing completion and expected to be finished by December 15.
“This will create a new perspective for Larnaca,” said Mayor Andreas Vyras told ANT television . “Our city will become more beautiful and attractive to investors.”
Despite the long-term vision, local business owners are struggling. Some have already shut down due to reduced foot traffic and rising costs.
Mayor Vyras urged residents to remain patient, noting that a longer, more gradual construction timeline would have caused even greater disruption.
Beyond infrastructure, Larnaca is also seeing a surge in new tourist accommodations to meet growing demand. The city is positioning itself for further growth and is actively pursuing the title of European Capital of Culture for 2030.
