Lawmakers in Cyprus have raised concerns over the public sector’s handling of sexual and other forms of harassment complaints, citing serious procedural failures and inadequate protections for victims.

During a recent session of the House Human Rights Committee, members of parliament criticized the poor implementation of the Code of Practice for preventing and addressing workplace harassment.

Several MPs described the system as chaotic, with convoluted reporting procedures, a hostile environment for complainants, and possible cover-ups. They also accused authorities of violating victims’ rights.

The committee said it plans to propose legislative changes aimed at improving protections for victims and streamlining the complaint process in workplace harassment cases.
