FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Negotiators from both sides in Cyprus are set to meet early next week, according to reports.
The Haravgi newspaper reported that Güneş Onar, Special Representative of the the Turkish Cypriot leader, and Menelaos Meneleou, the Greek Cypriot negotiator, will hold discussions ahead of a scheduled leaders’ meeting on May 5, as announced by President Nikos Christodoulides.
During their last meeting on April 2, the leaders agreed to establish a youth committee, address issues related to mines at the negotiator level, and collaborate on climate change and environmental initiatives.
They also tasked their representatives with continuing discussions on crossing points and evaluating the feasibility of a solar power plant in the buffer zone.
While progress has been made on CBMs at a low political level, major disagreements persist, particularly regarding the opening of crossing points between the two sides.
