FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Nicosia Mayor Haralambos Pruncos has raised concerns about the municipality’s financial situation during a speech to the Assembly Internal Affairs Committee.
Representing a population of 112,000 across 104 square kilometers, the municipality operates on a budget of €73.5 million in revenue and €72.4 million in expenditure for this year.
Pruncos detailed the strain on municipal finances, citing routine expenses such as road lighting, which alone costs €2.98 million annually.
He emphasized that the municipality requires €32 million in state funding to function effectively but has only received €22.5 million this year, leaving a significant shortfall.
The mayor’s appeal underscores the challenges faced in maintaining essential services and infrastructure under current financial constraints.
