FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — Police in Cyprus are investigating a report that a Romanian woman was held against her will and forced into prostitution in the coastal city of Paphos.
Authorities said Saturday they received information from Romanian officials that a 48-year-old woman who had recently traveled to Cyprus with a 51-year-old man may have been confined in a hotel and prevented from leaving.
She was also reportedly scheduled to fly to Poland later that day.
Officers searched the hotel but did not find the woman. She was later located outside Paphos Airport, accompanied by the man, and called for help, police said.
The woman told investigators she was not allowed to leave the hotel without the man and was taken twice to a property in Paphos where she was forced to have sex with clients for money.
Police arrested the 51-year-old man and a second suspect, age 79.
A third suspect, age 44, is wanted in connection with the case.
The two men in custody are expected to appear before the Paphos District Court for remand hearings.
The investigation is ongoing.
