FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — President Nikos Christodoulides met with Chevron executives, including CEO Mike Wirth, on Monday to discuss energy developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, focusing on the strategic importance of the “Aphrodite” field.
The discussions highlighted the significance of agreements between Cyprus and Chevron for the field’s exploitation, and between Cyprus and Egypt for the commercial development of its natural gas.
Christodoulides was briefed on plans for a seabed survey this summer, which will initiate pipeline construction between “Aphrodite” and Egypt.
Chevron’s expertise and operations in Cyprus, Israel, Egypt, and Greece position the company as a vital player in ensuring regional energy security.
President Christodoulides emphasized the importance of timely and effective implementation of energy plans, noting their role in strengthening Cyprus’ energy strategy and contributing to EU energy security.
Chevron reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Cyprus’ energy goals and integrating the “Aphrodite” field into its Eastern Mediterranean portfolio.
The President was accompanied by top Cypriot officials, including Minister of Energy George Papanastasiou, during the meeting at Chevron’s Houston headquarters.
