FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE — President Nikos Christodoulides convened a five-and-a-half-hour emergency meeting Sunday at the Presidential residence in Troodos, focusing on the aftermath of the deadly wildfire that recently swept through multiple mountain communities.
The meeting brought together key government officials, including Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis; Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis; Agriculture and Interior Ministers; the Director of the President’s Office; the Director General of the Interior Ministry; Presidential Undersecretary Irini Piki; Deputy Minister of Social Welfare Marilena Evangelou; Police Chief Themistos Arnaouti; and all community leaders from the affected villages.
Also in attendance were the Fire Service Chief, the head of Civil Defense, the Forest Department Director, the Commissioner for Mountain Communities, and representatives from the Cyprus Electricity Authority (AIK).
President Christodoulides reviewed the events with local leaders, listened to their concerns, and outlined recovery priorities.
He provided details on government plans for emergency aid, compensation, and next steps toward restoring normalcy.
Local television station ANT1 reported that the president is expected to make a formal statement later in the day.
Community leaders expressed satisfaction with the promises made, noting that if implemented, they would offer crucial relief to those impacted by the fire.
