FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides announced a 12-point emergency relief plan Sunday to support residents impacted by deadly wildfires in the Limassol district.
Standing beside local leaders from affected communities, Christodoulides acknowledged state failures and offered an official apology.
The measures — finalized after a high-level meeting in Troodos — include immediate financial aid for local councils, temporary housing, rent subsidies, and full compensation for destroyed or damaged property.
Families whose homes were lost will receive grants of up to €10,000, plus additional support for dependents.
Farmers and livestock breeders will be compensated for a year’s lost income, while businesses and self-employed workers are offered stipends and recovery plans.
The government will also restore key infrastructure, waive local taxes and fees for residents, and begin environmental rehabilitation.
