FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The Cypriot government has shifted its language on mobile desalination units, moving from “under consideration” to “focused on implementation,” according to a revised statement from the Ministry of Agriculture.
The updated announcement, nearly identical to a previous release from the Water Development Department, emphasizes accelerated efforts to combat water scarcity. It outlines plans to install new units in Limassol, Larnaca and Famagusta by summer 2026.
Twelve of 13 units provided by the United Arab Emirates are already operating at the Moni power station, the ministry said, citing strong bilateral ties.
Water scarcity remains a strategic priority, the statement added, linking it to daily life, agriculture, tourism and national security. The government aims to ensure sustainable water management “with respect for future generations.”
