Two Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) Police officers have received the Overseas Territories Police Medal following the release of His Majesty The King’s New Year’s Honours List.
This prestigious honour recognised both Chief Inspector Melina Papagregoriou and Superintendent Constandinos Petrou for their exceptional contributions to policing within the SBAs.
Chief Inspector Papagregoriou, a 27-year police veteran, has significantly enhanced operational efficiency and intelligence-led policing in the SBAs
Known for her exceptional leadership and strategic approach to work she admitted to feeling overwhelmed when she was informed of the news.
She said: “I am truly humbled and grateful to be the recipient of the Overseas Territories Police Medal.
‘’It is a recognition of all the hard work and dedication throughout my 27-year career.’’
Looking ahead, she added: “It really motivates me to continue striving for excellence in all that I do.
“I am deeply appreciative, and I would like to extend my gratitude to the Senior Management Team of the SBA Police for their belief in my abilities but also to my team members who have stood by me and for being part of my professional journey.’’
Akrotiri’s Deputy Divisional Commander, Superintendent Petrou, with 28-years of experience, has been instrumental in advancing community safeguarding initiatives.
His “demonstrative and unwavering dedication to protect and serve the public” has gone above and beyond.
Speaking shortly after hearing the news he proudly said: “I am profoundly honoured and grateful to have been awarded this by His Majesty King Charles III for my contributions to safeguarding, policing, and public safety.
“This accomplishment would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my colleagues in the SBA and UK Police.”
Both officers are expected to receive their awards later this year during an official ceremony.
