FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – A Cyprus police helicopter was deployed to Israel to assist with firefighting efforts as crews worked to contain wildfires near Jerusalem.
Petros Petrou, chief pilot of the Cyprus Police Aviation Wing, said his crew was actively involved in efforts to control the fires.
“In one case, human lives were endangered,” Petrou told local TV, describing blocked roads and cars that burned due to the flames. “The people were fortunately saved.”
He said most major fire outbreaks had been contained, with crews working to extinguish smaller flare-ups.
Cyprus is currently the only foreign country assisting Israeli forces, but additional support from Italy and Croatia is expected to arrive within hours.
