Three pensioners—a 72-year-old man and two women aged 73 and 90—are being treated for severe heatstroke at Nicosia General Hospital as the island continues to endure extreme temperatures and a prolonged heatwave.
Health officials said the patients were brought in from their homes with serious symptoms, including dehydration and thermal exhaustion. Their condition is described as serious but stable, with signs of gradual improvement.
Emergency departments across public hospitals have reported a surge in cases related to heat exposure, including sunburn and heat-related fatigue. Most patients are elderly and, after receiving medical care, are discharged with instructions for ongoing treatment.
Authorities are urging the public to take precautions, especially vulnerable groups. Recommendations include avoiding direct sun exposure, staying hydrated, and seeking medical attention at the first sign of heat-related symptoms.
