The government will present a bill on telephone surveillance to the Cabinet on Friday, with plans to submit it to parliament immediately afterward, the Justice Ministry said.
Police and the Intelligence Service (KYP) are expected to use the new provisions once the legislation is approved.
The bill closes existing legal gaps – the Minister of justice, however, stressed that any interception of communications would apply only to serious criminal offenses and would require a court order.
Under the procedure, the police chief or the head of KYP would file a written request supported by a detailed, substantiated report outlining the facts of the case.
