Cyprus: U.N. Envoy’s Reappointment Welcomed as Cypriot Leaders Advance Cooperation

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides met Monday at the Ledra Palace Hotel under the auspices of U.N. Special Representative and Deputy Special Adviser Colin Stewart.

During the meeting, the leaders welcomed the reappointment of María Angela Holguín Cuéllar as the U.N. Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus and anticipated her arrival in the coming weeks.

Tatar and Christodoulides officially launched the Technical Committee on Youth, urging its members to foster dialogue and initiatives addressing youth-related concerns.

They also reviewed ongoing efforts to restore cemeteries, assigning further work to the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.

Additionally, the leaders endorsed new environmental and climate change initiatives while continuing discussions on demining, solar energy, and border crossing points.

They agreed to maintain regular reviews of these matters and plan to meet again soon.
