FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Israel and Cyprus will finalize a deal this year to build an electricity cable linking the two countries as part of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, alongside energy officials.
The undersea cable will connect Israel and Cyprus before expanding to Europe, boosting regional energy security. Netanyahu emphasized IMEC’s strategic importance and plans for further talks with India and Greece.
The IMEC initiative, launched at the 2023 G20 summit, aims to enhance global connectivity through railways, ports, pipelines, and power infrastructure.
Officials also discussed resolving the Aphrodite-Yishai natural gas field dispute, with a final agreement expected within two months.
