FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held separate phone talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, urging calm and restraint following a deadly attack in Indian-controlled Kashmir, the Egyptian foreign ministry said Sunday.
Abdelatty emphasized the need for de-escalation to prevent further instability in South Asia.
He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of terrorism and discussed the broader implications of the attack with both officials.
The attack in Kashmir, which killed 25 people, has escalated tensions between India and Pakistan.
India accused Pakistan of involvement and announced measures such as suspending the Indus Waters Treaty and expelling Pakistani personnel.
Pakistan’s Senate rejected the allegations and warned of a strong response to any water diversion attempts.
Tensions worsened as reports emerged of cross-border fire along the Line of Control in Kashmir between Saturday night and Sunday morning, further heightening the situation.
