NICOSIA — Lieutenant General Emmanuil Theodoru has been appointed commander of the National Guard following a decision by the Cabinet, based on a recommendation from the Defense Ministry.
Theodoru is scheduled to assume his duties on Oct. 9, 2025, with his term set to conclude on Oct. 8, 2027.
Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas said the appointment marks a shift from previous practice, noting that Greece no longer assigns retired officers to the post.
Theodoru was selected while still in active service.
