FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Monday that 200,000 Syrian refugees in Türkiye have returned to Syria since the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in December.

Speaking at a meeting on Türkiye’s migration management model, Erdogan said the total number of Syrians returning home from various countries during this period has reached 931,450.

Erdogan noted that Türkiye currently hosts 4 million migrants, including 2.8 million Syrians under temporary protection.

“This number is gradually decreasing day by day,” he said, adding that Syria is slowly recovering despite challenges and obstacles.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian civil war in 2011, millions of Syrians have fled their country, with Türkiye becoming a major refuge. At the peak of the crisis, Türkiye hosted more than 3.6 million Syrians, according to UN figures. Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing efforts to manage migration and facilitate safe returns for refugees.
