Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed a U.S.-backed Gaza cease-fire proposal and the war in Ukraine during a phone call Tuesday, according to the Turkish presidency.
Erdogan said Turkey is working to secure a cease-fire and deliver aid to Gaza, referencing a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
He also called for diplomatic efforts toward a “fair and lasting peace” in Ukraine.
The call coincided with Putin’s birthday, and Erdogan extended his wishes.
The Kremlin confirmed the exchange and said the leaders reviewed developments in the Middle East and Ukraine.
