Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot political parties participating in monthly bicommunal meetings at Ledra Palace Hotel have expressed deep sorrow over the death of Katie Clerides, a longtime member of the forum and a prominent advocate for reconciliation on the divided island.

In a joint communiqué issued Wednesday under the auspices of the Slovak Embassy, party representatives paid tribute to Clerides for her decades-long commitment to resolving the Cyprus issue and fostering trust between the two communities.

“Katie earned the respect of Cypriots in both communities for her sincere concern and continuous efforts,” the statement read. One member described her passing as a national loss, saying, “Cyprus has lost a great treasure.”

The parties extended condolences to Clerides’ family and loved ones.

The statement was signed by representatives from 19 political parties, including AKEL, DISY, CTP, DIKO, EDEK, and the United Democrats, among others.
