Leaders from nine Mediterranean countries in the European Union are set to meet Monday in Slovenia to discuss their potential role in Gaza’s future following a ceasefire agreement, officials said.
The talks will include a meeting with Jordan’s King Abdullah II, with a focus on accelerating humanitarian aid and rebuilding the Palestinian enclave.
The Med9 group — comprising Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, and Croatia — will also work to develop a “shared vision” ahead of Thursday’s European Council summit in Brussels.
Among their top priorities are boosting European competitiveness and advancing a plan to redirect frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine, a proposal backed by the European Commission.
