Turkish authorities seized more than 1.3 tons of cannabis in two coordinated operations at key border checkpoints, the Trade Ministry has announced.
Customs enforcement and intelligence teams intercepted the drugs at the Tekirdag Customs Area on the Sea of Marmara and the Ipsala Border Gate with Greece in Edirne province. The seizures followed targeted risk analysis and surveillance of suspicious vehicles entering Türkiye.
Officials said 1.153 tons of cannabis were found in Tekirdag and 173 kilograms in Ipsala, totaling 1.326 tons. The estimated market value of the drugs is 809 million Turkish liras (approximately $19.3 million).
Investigations are ongoing under the supervision of the Tekirdag and Ipsala Chief Public Prosecutor’s Offices.
Since the current cabinet took office in 2023, Turkish security forces have confiscated roughly 216 tons of narcotics and 243 million drug pills, dismantled 328 organized trafficking networks, and arrested 87,912 suspects, according to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya.
