Mediators in the Israel-Hamas negotiations said Thursday that an agreement has been reached on all provisions and implementation mechanisms for the first phase of a Gaza ceasefire deal, according to Egypt’s Al-Qahera News TV.
A final draft of the agreement is underway, the report said, adding that the deal would end the war, secure the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. Further details are expected to be announced later.
The announcement followed three days of indirect talks between Hamas and Israel in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh. The negotiations centered on a peace plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Delegations from the United States, Qatar and Türkiye joined the discussions on Wednesday, alongside representatives from Hamas and Israel.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said in a televised address Wednesday that the talks were “progressing positively.”
Trump’s proposal includes a ceasefire, a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the exchange of hostages and prisoners.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians and injured nearly 170,000, according to Gaza’s health authorities. The offensive has caused widespread destruction and worsened humanitarian conditions in the enclave.
