West Germany has given into threats from Egypt’s Colonel Nasser and cancelled her arms shipments to Israel.
Nasser had warned that Bonn’s military aid to his enemy was cut off he would give official recognition to the East German Communist régime.
So the West Germans decided they had to back down before Nasser plays host next month to Walter Ulbricht.
They even agreed to pull back arms already on their way to Israel.
In return for the arms boycott, the Germans have been assured that they need not worry about Ulbricht’s Cairo visit.
