FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Egypt has repatriated 25 significant artifacts spanning multiple periods of ancient Egyptian civilization, the Foreign Ministry has said.

The Egyptian Consulate General in New York facilitated the return of the items, described as the largest batch of illegally smuggled antiquities recovered in recent years.

Among the artifacts are stone and wooden sarcophagus lids, funerary masks, a large alabaster vase, and a portrait from the Greco-Roman period.

The collection also includes jewelry, a rare gold coin from the reign of Ptolemy I, and bronze and stone statues reflecting ancient Egyptian artistic traditions.

The recovery was the result of collaboration between the Egyptian Consulate General in New York, U.S. authorities, and private collectors. Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Cultural Sector of the Foreign Ministry, and the Public Prosecution Service provided additional support.

Egypt has ramped up efforts to reclaim stolen antiquities, reinforcing its commitment to preserving its cultural heritage.
