Germany’s Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) has adopted a new name and elected new leadership during its federal party congress over the weekend.
Delegates voted to rename the party “Alliance for Social Justice and Economic Reason” while retaining the abbreviation BSW. The change will take effect Oct. 1, 2026, according to a statement on the party’s website.
Amira Mohamed Ali was confirmed as co-chair, and European Parliament member Fabio De Masi was elected as the new co-chair.
The party was founded in early 2024 after Wagenknecht and other figures split from the Left party. Wagenknecht announced last month she would step down as leader.
BSW narrowly missed the 5-percent threshold to enter the Bundestag in February’s elections and is seeking to rebrand itself to attract more voters.
