A direct air route linking southwest China’s Chongqing Municipality and Yangon, Myanmar, was launched Monday, aimed at boosting tourism and business exchanges between the two countries.

Operated by China West Air with an Airbus A320, the service offers round-trip flights on Mondays and Fridays. Outbound flights depart Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport at 9:35 a.m. Beijing time and arrive in Yangon at 11:20 a.m. local time. Return flights leave Yangon at 12:15 p.m. and land in Chongqing at 3:45 p.m. Beijing time.

Myanmar’s Ambassador to China Tin Maung Swe said the route marks a milestone in building the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and will strengthen cooperation. West Air Chairman Wang Ke said the service supports the Belt and Road Initiative and Chongqing’s role as an inland hub for opening-up.

Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport currently operates 36 international and regional passenger routes with more than 190 weekly flights, connecting the city to destinations across North America, Europe, Oceania, the Middle East, Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia.
