Greek Tax Debt Surges as Unpaid Taxes Hit 3 Billion Euros in 2025

FAMAGUSTA GAZETTEGreek taxpayers left 3 billion euros in taxes unpaid in the first four months of 2025, pushing total outstanding debt to the government to 110.8 billion euros.

Data from the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) shows that the number of taxpayers added to the list of overdue debtors rose by 470,800, reaching 4,242,507 by April, up from 3,771,707 at the end of December 2024.

Of the total debt, 26.35 billion euros have been deemed uncollectible, with an additional 10 billion euros expected to be classified as such by year’s end. The remaining 84.45 billion euros is considered recoverable.

Authorities say 2,230,160 taxpayers face potential asset seizures, while 1,594,218 are already subject to enforced collection measures.
