ISIS has claimed responsibility for an attack on Syrian government forces, its first since the Islamist-led offensive toppled President Bashar al-Assad in December.
A remote-controlled landmine struck a military patrol Wednesday, killing one person and wounding three others, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The SITE Intelligence Group says ISIS has not claimed responsibility for an attack since Assad’s removal. The extremist group, which lost its territorial control in 2019, has remained active in Syria’s central desert.
Syrian authorities recently reported dismantling an ISIS cell near Damascus, citing plans for future attacks.
