A private jet carrying Libya’s army chief of staff, Mohammed Al‑Haddad, crashed Tuesday evening in central Turkey after losing radio contact en route to Tripoli, officials and local media said.
The aircraft departed Ankara’s Esenboga Airport at 8:10 p.m. and lost contact at 8:52 p.m., Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said. It had five people on board.
Turkish TV reported early Wednesday that the plane went down in a mountainous area near Kesikkavak village in the Haymana district. Authorities said the jet had requested an emergency landing due to an electrical malfunction and was attempting to divert to Etimesgut when contact was lost.
Gendarmerie, fire and medical teams were dispatched to the crash site. Search crews reached the wreckage on foot due to muddy terrain and were continuing operations at the scene.
