Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is in Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend the G20 meeting.
On Thursday, he had a separate meeting with the Chinese Wang Yi before the main meeting began.
The G20 meeting takes place just days before the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
It is expected that European diplomats will express strong support for Ukraine.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will not attend the meeting.
The G20 is a cooperation forum for the 19 countries that have defined themselves and each other as the most important economies in the world.
In addition, the EU and the African Union are members of the forum.
