FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – The 2025 London Marathon became the world’s largest marathon on Sunday, breaking the previous record of 55,646 finishers held by the New York Marathon.
The milestone was achieved at 7:35 p.m., marking the highest number of runners to complete the race in its 45th edition.
This year’s marathon drew over 840,000 applications for the participation draw, underlining its growing global popularity.
In the elite competitions, Ethiopia’s Tigist Assefa claimed victory in the women’s category, setting a world record for an all-women’s field.
Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe triumphed in the men’s race, adding to the event’s remarkable achievements.
