French President Emmanuel Macron declared Tuesday that a two-state solution, including recognizing a Palestinian state, is the “only path to peace” in the Gaza conflict. He made the remarks during his state visit to the British Parliament.
Macron stressed that such a solution would allow Israel to “live in peace and security alongside its neighbors.” He also called for the immediate release of all hostages and urged all parties to work together for peace in the Middle East.
He warned that an “endless war” poses a “huge threat” to the region. Macron emphasized that both Britain and France, as permanent members of the UN Security Council and proponents of multilateralism, “must once again show the world that our alliance can make all the difference.” While both nations support a two-state solution, they currently disagree on the timeline for recognizing a Palestinian state.
Beyond the Middle East, Macron pushed for greater defense and security cooperation between Britain and France, Europe’s only nuclear powers. He cited “hesitant alliances and the return of major conflict” in Europe as reasons for this enhanced collaboration.
