French President Emmanuel Macron believes Europe must protect its own sovereignty in the face of US President Donald Trump’s second term, reports Reuters news agency.
The message came during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Paris.
“Following the inauguration of the new administration in the United States, it is more necessary than ever for Europeans and for our two countries to play their role in consolidating a united, strong and sovereign Europe,” Macron said.
He added that it was particularly important to support the automotive and construction industries, the steel industry and the chemical industry sector.
