The recent death of a 25-year-old woman in the north has reignited a long-standing and deeply troubling issue: sexual slavery.

This tragic event has sparked outrage among parties and organizations, shedding light on the grim reality that many women face.

Parliamentarian Dogus Dergia’s speech to the parliament was a bold and necessary call to action. She highlighted the horrifying fact that sexual slavery has persisted in the occupied territories for 25 years, with women being deceitfully registered as students but forced into prostitution. The existence of online directories, where women are advertised as commodities, paints a chilling picture of organized sex tourism that thrives in these areas.

The women’s organization of the Republican Turkish Party (RTK) was right to emphasize in their statement, “We have no tolerance for sexual slavery and human trafficking!” This death is not just a loss of life; it is the bloody result of systematic violence and exploitation. The RTK’s stance is a powerful reminder that we must address the root causes of this issue and work tirelessly to protect the vulnerable.

The Independence Road Party’s call for the closure of nightclubs, where women are coerced into working under exploitative conditions, is a step in the right direction. These women are not voluntary workers in the sex industry; they are victims of sexual slavery, trapped in a vicious cycle of abuse and exploitation.

It is imperative that society in the north, acknowledge the suffering of these women and take concrete actions to dismantle the systems that perpetuate their exploitation.

The young woman’s death should serve as a wake-up call . People must demand justice, support the survivors, and work towards a future where no woman is subjected to such dehumanizing treatment.
