The parents’ association of the Pediatric Oncology Clinic has voiced serious concern over ongoing renovation works at Makarios Hospital, warning that the conditions are affecting vulnerable children and their families.
In a statement, the association said constant noise pollution is disrupting the mental well‑being of young patients and parents.
It also reported falling dust and soil from false ceilings, which it said pose significant risks in a ward housing immunocompromised children.
Parents additionally cited water leaks from the ceiling into patient beds, the kitchen and other areas, as well as repeated water‑supply interruptions caused by maintenance issues, resulting in dirty water flowing through the pipes.
They are calling for an immediate reassessment of all safety measures, an updated risk‑management plan, daily oversight of the works and full briefing of the relevant supervisory committee.
In a separate letter to Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides, the “Little Heroes” foundation urged the ministry to take urgent action to ensure proper safety and hygiene conditions in the clinic.
