Cyprus has deployed a 13‑member police unit to Brussels to support security operations for European Council meetings during the first half of 2026, as part of the country’s EU Council presidency.
The officers, drawn from the police rapid‑response unit MMAD, will assist in securing EU Council facilities and other meeting venues.
The team was already on duty, providing security for Thursday’s informal Competitiveness Council in Brussels. Officials said the unit will took part in all security procedures, from preparatory briefings to the conclusion of each event.
