Red‑alert warning for forest fires

The Department of Forestry has issued a red‑alert warning for forest fires on Tuesday 21 July.

Officials say the risk of fires breaking out and spreading will be extremely high, and they’re urging the public to take extra care outdoors.

Starting a fire is a criminal offence under Cyprus’s Forest Law and countryside fire‑prevention legislation, carrying severe penalties.

People are being asked to avoid any activity that could spark a blaze, and to report smoke or fire immediately by calling 1407 for the Forestry Department or 112 for the Fire Service.
