FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Russia declared the defense attaché at the Romanian embassy in Moscow and his deputy personae non gratae on Wednesday, the Russian foreign ministry announced.
The decision was communicated to Romania’s charge d’affaires, who was summoned to the ministry and handed a diplomatic note.
The expulsion is a response to Romania’s March 5 action, when Bucharest declared the Russian military, air, and naval attaché at its embassy, along with his deputy, personae non gratae.
Romania cited violations of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations as the reason for its decision.
Moscow described Romania’s move as “unmotivated” and emphasized that its own measure was taken in retaliation, further straining diplomatic relations between the two nations.
