General Valery Gerasimov, the chief of Russia’s General Staff, made a rare visit to a command post near the frontline in eastern Ukraine, according to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry.
The visit comes amid ongoing hostilities in what Russian authorities refer to as a “military special operation” in Ukraine.
The precise location of Gerasimov’s visit was not disclosed.
In late January, the general visited Russian soldiers near Pokrovsk, a strategic hub controlled by Ukrainian forces in Donetsk Oblast.
Pokrovsk serves as a critical supply center for the Ukrainian military, highlighting the significance of the region in the ongoing conflict.
