A son of senior Hamas figure Khalil al-Hayya was killed Tuesday in an Israeli airstrike targeting the group’s exiled leadership in the Qatari capital.
Hamas officials were reportedly meeting to discuss a U.S. peace proposal when the strike occurred.
The leadership survived, according to Hamas member Suhail al-Hindi, who confirmed the death in an interview with Al Jazeera.
The attack marks a rare strike outside Gaza, hitting Hamas’ political bureau, which has long operated from Qatar.
The group’s exiled leadership has played a key role in negotiations with Israel over the past several years.
