Sweden’s newly appointed health minister, Elisabeth Lann, collapsed during her first press conference Tuesday, just one day after taking over the role from outgoing minister Acko Ankarberg Johansson.
Lann, a Christian Democrat, fainted moments after addressing reporters. “That’s what happens when your blood sugar drops,” she said after regaining consciousness and returning to speak with the press a few minutes later, according to Swedish media.
The incident occurred as Lann was being formally introduced in her new role. She is expected to lead efforts to reform Sweden’s healthcare system, a key issue for her party.
