“Last night, after two years, we had the election of a new President of Lebanon. Today at noon I will travel to Lebanon to meet with the new President of Lebanon. We are the first country we are visiting Lebanon. I will travel to the country for an hour to meet with the new President, whom I know very well, he was the head of the army. I will travel there with my colleagues. It is, if you like, another indication of the effort of the Republic of Cyprus but also of the recognition of the role of the Republic of Cyprus in addressing the current challenges that arise in our region. Challenges that bring us even closer. And I am glad, because the role that the Republic of Cyprus can play is recognized, especially with regard to the European Union. We are the member state of the European Union in the region, we have excellent relations with all neighboring states and it is in this context that the trilateral discussions in Cairo took place. We had two important visits yesterday and I am going today, as I mentioned to you, to Lebanon, to meet the President of the country.”
