Professional urban taxi drivers held a strike Tuesday to protest what they describe as mounting problems in the sector that are pushing them toward financial ruin.
Demonstrations began at 8:30 a.m., with drivers marching outside the Transport Ministry, the House of Representatives and the Presidential Palace.
Their main complaint is the illegal operation of private vehicles acting as unlicensed “pirate” taxis, which drivers say are undermining their livelihoods and operating without regulation or oversight.
