FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – Thirteen people were killed in a military munitions handling accident in western Java on Monday, including nine civilians and four military personnel, officials said.
The explosion occurred as officers were completing the disposal of expired ammunition, according to defense spokesman Wahyu Yudhayana.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, focusing on why civilians were in close proximity to the detonation site.
The field is regularly used for controlled explosions, and local residents often gather afterward to collect scrap metal, officials said.
