Turkey raises fines for e-scooter operators

Fines for electric scooter operators that break the rules have been increased under an amendment to Turkey’s e-scooter regulation, published in the Official Gazette.

The amendment, prepared by the Transport and Infrastructure Ministry, the Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Ministry and the Interior Ministry, has come into force.

Operators that breach the general obligations governing shared e-scooter services and their authorisation certificates will face a fine of 8,687 lira.

Those running e-scooter services without authority or permission, or outside the limits of their authorisation certificate, will be fined 86,900 lira.

Authorisation holders that exceed the total number of e-scooter permits granted for the province in which they operate will be fined 8,687 lira the first time and 86,900 lira the second time. A third breach will bring a fine of 170,000 lira and a six-month suspension of operations.

Operators that fail to set up a call centre as required will be fined 43,447 lira.

Those that do not provide inspectors with the information or documents needed for an inspection will be fined 50,000 lira.

Where several offences are committed together, a separate administrative fine will be issued for each one.
