FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE  – Türkiye’s annual inflation rate fell for the 10th consecutive month in March, easing to 38.1% from February’s 39.1%, marking the lowest level since December 2021, official data revealed Thursday.

The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 2.46% in March, following a 2.27% rise in February. Producer prices also climbed, registering a 1.88% month-on-month rise, with an annual increase of 23.5%.

Among sectors, education saw the highest annual price increase at 80.42%, followed by housing at 68.63% and alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 46.74%.

Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek addressed the situation on the social media platform X, emphasizing the government’s commitment to managing inflation. “We expect the impact of recent market fluctuations on inflation to be limited by tightening financial conditions. We will continue to use all our policy tools with strong coordination in line with our price stability goal,” he stated.

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz also commented on X, noting that the disinflation trend that began in June last year continued in March, making it 10 consecutive months of decline. “Consumer inflation fell to an annual rate of 38.1% in March, marking a 37.4-point decline since June 2024, when disinflation began,” he said.

Türkiye has battled high inflation for years. In January, the central bank raised its year-end inflation forecast for 2025 to 24%, revising it upward by 3 percentage points.
