FAMAGUSTA GAZETTE – U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Saturday for discussions described as “very positive and constructive” by the White House.
In a statement, the White House highlighted Witkoff’s emphasis on President Donald Trump’s directive to resolve differences between the two nations through dialogue and diplomacy.
“These issues are very complicated, and Special Envoy Witkoff’s direct communication today was a step forward in achieving a mutually beneficial outcome,” the statement said. Both sides are set to meet again next Saturday.
Iranian media also portrayed the talks as “constructive” and confirmed plans for further discussions next week.
This meeting marks the first direct engagement between the U.S. and Iran since Trump returned to the White House.
